Turkey Butternut Squash Chili

The best part about working for the university that I work for is that we get a nice loooong winter break! I spent the first part of break hanging out with all the family that was in town and celebrating all the Christmas traditions that we have, but I have spent the past couple of days whipping up a bunch of meals that freeze well so that dinners can be a breeze when I go back to work in the new year! First up: turkey butternut squash chili.

Thanks to a crockpot and lots of veggies, this tasty meal is guilt-free and easy as pie to make. Easily make it vegetarian by omitting the turkey and substituting chicken broth for vegetable broth!

Grandma’s Italian Wedding Cookies

The holidays mean traditions, yummy foods and tons of family time. One of my favorite holiday events combines all three of these things–cookie baking at Grandma’s. Every year, the girl cousins go to my grandma’s house to make cookies for all of our family gatherings over the holiday season, including these delicious Italian Wedding Cookies. This recipe was originally belonged to my grandmother’s mother so this recipe has now been tried and approved by four generations!

These cookies are definitely time-consuming, but they are worth it!

A former coworker of mine introduced me to Crack Pretzels, and like the name suggests, I was addicted! I modified her recipe and bit and made a batch for my family, and now they expect me to bring Crack Pretzels whenever we all get together. Luckily, they’re so easy to make that I don’t mind!

Mama’s Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are definitely one of my favorite holiday foods! My mom is always in charge of this dish for our family get-togethers, but I volunteered to make the mashed potatoes for a Friendsgiving celebration. Now that I’ve made this dish, I do not envy my mom’s yearly task…preparing this dish takes some time and some arm muscles! But the end result is worth it. My potatoes didn’t turn out quite as pretty or as smooth as my mama’s since I got a bit lazy in the peeling process and mashing process…but they were just as tasty, if I do say so myself!

Here is my family’s take on this holiday staple just in time for Thanksgiving.
